My Nation Builder

Allen is officially Teach for America Alumni.
He came, he conquered, he closed the education gap.

For those of you unfamiliar with Teach for America, also commonly called TFA for those in know, let me give you a quick description. TFA recruits recent college graduates and young professionals into the education field. They give them a crash course in teaching and help them through certification. There is a two year commitment to the program with the option to continue after the two years is completed. Each teacher is assigned to a region and then to a school with a subject. Participating schools are most often Title  One schools or in a low income area. With the end goal of closing the education gap, TFA alumni become life long advocates of the education system because they know first hand what it is like in the classroom and how important education is for our future.

How is that? Do you want to join now?

The point of this post is that Allen is done. It was a huge accomplishment with long hours and emotionally trying times. Without sounding too cheesy, I am very proud of Allen. Lots of hard work and perseverance went into the past two years.

Today he took a nap and I swear he was smiling as he slept. I think he can finally legitimately relax...

Can you tell I made him take this picture..
You can almost hear him say, "Hurry, people are watching...".

This is not really a graduation, but you could send us gifts if you want!! I like chocolate.

PS. Remember when President Obama called teachers Nation Builders?
He was talking about Allen.

  1. I am impressed! Vance started TFA in 2008, but ultimately quit. But, he went through the summer training... and I have never seen him more stressed. Teaching is so emotionally demanding. Good luck to you and Allen in the next stage!
